Which File Extension are You?

Woho!

Just got to know that Lene and myself got selected to do a master thesis by Teleca.

Some information about the thesis is given in this document.

First thing to do now is to write a short memo about what we are gonna try to do/solve in this thesis, which is unfortunately due on Friday so we haven't got much time to do it. (And even more unfortunately is the fact that I have to deliver documentation for the operating system project I've taken this session this Friday as well!).

Team America

Haven't had much spare time to write more about spring-break and other things happening here. But just watched a quick preview of the Team America by the creators of South Park. It seems as funny as 'South Park' and 'Cannibal the Musical', so I'm definitively looking forward to this one :).

The preview can be found here.

Spring Break!

So, what did I end up doing for spring-break?

Well, let's check the list:

  • No plan at all - just see what happends from a day to day basis...

  • Invite my good old friends Johnny Walker and Jameson to my place for a week. Maybe mr. Baccardi also comes along?

  • Use the money originally planned to be spent on the Whitsunday trip to buy a surfboard and a wetsuit and go to some beach and surf for the whole week. And check out some pubs during the evenings.. would of course be a lot more fun together with more people.

  • Spend the week outside Kentucky Fried Cruelty and demonstrate against them :)

I ended up doing point 2, 3 and I came to Whitsunday :D (Wearing a KFC Cruelty t-shirt I did some of point 4 too!). Actually I bougth a surfboard the weekend before spring-break. Lene, Solrun and I took a day trip over to the beach at Manly Island.

Johnny-boy had to stay at home, but Jameson & Baccardi came along to Whitsunday with me for a couple of days with sailing and fun :).

I couldn't leave Monday because of some quite strange workshop as explained earlier. But I found out that I could fly at 0630am on Tuesday, catch a bus at 1030am from Mackay airport and be at Arlie Beach, Whitsunday at 1230pm and still have one hour before the boat left the harbour... so I did that. I'm always nervous when travelling and changing vehicles, because you never know if you reach the next vehicle or not.

Everything seemed quite nice until I came to Brisbane where I had to change to another airplane to come to Mackay. I had 30min on Mackay airport to get my baggage + find the bus to Arlie Beach, and suddenly the airplane from Brisbane to Mackay was delayed. Um.. I didn't like that, but there isn't much to do with it, except hoping the bus+boat would wait for me :). Finally the we could board the airplane and fly away to Mackay. Fortunately we landed close to 10am as planned and I was happy with the situation. I found the bus quickly (Mackay Airport is very small, close to Vigra Airport for people familiar with it), and after a two hour long busride I arrived Arlie Beach.

Had a lot of luck that day, so I found my friends quite quickly and after a little while we entered the sailing boat.

Um.. I've gotta get some sleep now so the rest of the spring-break story will come later. Some pictures are up on my gallery-page, and more will be added later. Ciao!

Learning to surf at Kronulla Beach

At 11. Septhember I was at a surfing course at Kronulla Beach. Kronulla is the longest (6km) beach of Sydney. I've done some snowboarding earlier in my life and expected surfing to be close, but harder.

I was harder, actually a lot harder. To stand up on snowboard you just have to stand up like you would normally do, and after a while you learn to get some balance so you don't fall down :). With surfing you start lying on the board, and it's quite hard to stand up. That day I managed to partly stand up :).

Some pictures can be found here.

Rock Against Howard concert

Long time since I've written something here now, but I'll try to fix that tonight ;).

On 17. Septhember we (Lene, Solrun, Kate, Thorjan and me that is) was at the Rock Against Howard show here in Sydney. It was at the Metro Theatre.

First I did a stupid thing regards to getting the tickets. I had already ordered them at Ticketek, so I had to get them before 7pm that day. Unfortunately my Friday class is finished at 6pm so I didn't have much time (I left a bit earlier to get more time on me though :)). Um.. yeah the stupid thing. I was very convinced that the Metro Theatre was at the far end of George Street, close to where you can see the famous opera house etc. So I started of from house number ~600 and went/ran down to George st. 84. Woho.. but.. where was that Metro Theatre? I found a nice looking restaurant, but nothing close to the Metro Theatre. So I called Solrun who was at home and asked her if she could locate it. And I wasn't quite happy to hear that it actually is located somewhere close to where I first entered George Street (house nr. ~600). But I got the tickets at last :).

So, I got home close to 8pm and the show started at 8pm. But I needed some food first so I went down to Domino's Pizza a few metres away from Lydia(our house :)) and ordered a pizza. I waited something like 20min for the pizza and went down to catch it, but was it there? Oh no.. they had given it to someone else, claiming he was me or something like that. Good that you don't pay in advance at Domino's ;). End of that digression was that I got my pizza for free :).

Okidoki, we came to the concert place 10pmish I think and there was a break between the 1st and the 2nd show. I can't remember the name of the band, but it sucked bigtime. Very boring, and most of the other people I sow was half asleep too... They reminded me a _little_ bit of R.E.M., but a very poor version that is.

A quick break and then the 3rd band entered the stage. This was some hip-hop band, The HERD, which was quite cool, and the crowd woke up a bit. Sounded a bit like Moder Jords Massiva when they're playing more hip-hop music :).

And finally(for me!) Frenzal Rhomb entered the stage. Woho! Suddenly circle pits started and most of the people in the pit were jumping/moshing around :D. The floor was very slippery though, so I believe I fell down at least five times during the concert, but people were nice and picked eachother up again. Frenzal Rhomb plays some very fast & cool punk music.
